LOCATION: Carson, Minden, Gardnerville, Genoa



Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.

Incumbents perform advanced journey level duties and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or serve as a project leader as assigned. Incumbents may function as a unit leader to include directing the activities of a branch IT support unit, overseeing projects of limited scope, and coordinating activities with other work groups.

This position is located in Carson City. The incumbent will act as an advanced journey level application developer for the Department's various applications on the mainframe and server environment. The primary languages on the mainframe are COBOL, Natural using ADABAS and VSAM, JCL and IBM utilities. The primary toolset/language on the server environment are Oracle Developer Suite, Java, Oracle PL/SQL, and unix scripting. There are four main competencies: Designer/Analyst, Programming, Testing and Documentation. The role as a designer/analyst is to research and design applications and computer programs to the system specifications with minimal technical supervision. The size and scope of projects will range from small to large and complex depending on the system requirements. The role as a programmer is to code software applications and computer programs commensurate with the documented design. The role in Testing and Implementation is to test each application and computer program to ensure proper performance and efficiency guidelines are met. The role in Documentation is to ensure all applications and computer programs are documented in accordance with development standards and procedures.

To Qualify

Education and Experience

1)Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analyst and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

4)Applicants must be willing to work standby and carry the standby cellular phone for evening and weekend system troubleshooting.

1)This position requires mainframe or JAVA/Oracle application development experience.
