Position Summary:
Directs trauma, day surgery, sterile processing, recovery room, anesthesia and surgery services. Duties include supervision of department managers; development of standards, policies, procedures and systems to assure quality of care and compliance with regulations; and development and monitoring of the departments goals, programs and budgets.

Requirements
Education/Experience and Licensing/Certification Requirements: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and five (5) years of experience in surgical services, two (2) years of which were in a supervisory/managerial role. Valid License by State of Nevada to Practice as a Registered Nurse. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Prefer:

Knowledge of: Department and hospital safety practice and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control and sterilization principles and practices; surgical nursing; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights, confidentiality and informed consent principles; proper disposal methods for hazardous wastes; federal and state laws, regulations and standards affecting health care; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures; age specific patient care practices.
Skill in: Clinical nursing techniques and practices; providing leadership; supervising and training staff; negotiating; solving problems; developing and monitoring budgets; assessing needs and developing programs; developing goals, objectives, policies and procedures; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment; using computers and related software applications.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard medical equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, strength to examine and treat varied patients, vision to read printed materials and VDT screens, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
