Highway Maintenance Workers perform roadway, roadside and structural maintenance activities to restore the roadway surface and maintain the integrity of State highways.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

To Qualify
Education and Experience
1)One year of experience as a general laborer or semi-skilled worker that demonstrates an ability and dexterity to operate tools and equipment.
Special Notes
1)This class provides for semi-automatic progression to the Highway Maintenance Worker II level provided: 1) the employee meets the minimum qualifications for the class including obtaining the appropriate A, B, or C Commercial driver's license; 2) has a standard or above performance rating; and 3) has the recommendation of the appointing authority.
2)A Class A, B, or C, commercial driver's license, including appropriate endorsements may be required within six months of appointment if the applicant is required to operate a commercial vehicle or transport hazardous material to perform the duties of the position.
Special Requirements
1)A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
2)Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
