Grounds Maintenance Workers perform landscape, garden and greenhouse duties such as planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, weeding and snow and ice prevention and removal; and operate hand and power tools, power mowers, tractor mowers, trenching devices, forklifts and hoists.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Duties include landscape, garden, and greenhouse tasks such as planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, and weeding; operating hand tools, hand power tools, and light mechanized equipment such as power mowers, tractor mowers, trenching devices, forklifts, and hoists; and maintaining the campus to ensure the grounds are clean and free of trash, fallen leaves, snow, and ice by sweeping, raking, shoveling, picking up debris, and operating light, medium, and heavy equipment such as pick-up trucks, trash compactors, and loaders. Grounds Maintenance Workers possess a general knowledge of the following: gardening and landscape methods, techniques, materials, and equipment; sprinkler systems and related equipment; departmental and state purchasing procedures; common weeds, pests, and plant diseases associated with gardening, as well as eradication methods; and efficient irrigation methods.

To Qualify
Education and Experience
1)Six months of experience as a general laborer that included the operation of tools and small equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills Required
1)A valid Driver's License is required at the time of appointment and as a contingency for continuous employment.
