The Division of Insurance is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Insurance Counsel/Hearing Officer in the Carson City, Nevada office. This is an unclassified position that serves at the pleasure of the Commissioner of Insurance.
RECRUITMENT: This is an open competitive recruitment, open to all qualified persons.
APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY UP TO $97,901 (Salary reflects retirement (PERS) contributions by both the employee and the employer. An employer paid contribution plan is also available with a reduced gross salary.) The State of Nevada has an excellent benefit package that includes a retirement system, health, vision, dental and life insurance; 11 paid holidays; and paid sick and annual leave. Other employee paid benefits such as a deferred compensation plan are available.

THE POSITION: Under administrative direction, advises and counsels the Commissioner of Insurance on all matters relating to the regulatory responsibilities of the Division of Insurance; represents the Division of Insurance as its attorney in administrative hearings and contested administrative cases; prosecutes violations of the Nevada Insurance Code on behalf of the Division of Insurance; assists in the promulgation of legislation and regulations; advises and counsels Division of Insurance staff on legal issues; writes formal opinions and other responses on behalf of the Division of Insurance; conducts administrative hearings before the Division of Insurance as a neutral and impartial hearing officer.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited law school plus two years of experience as a practicing attorney. Individuals with two years experience in the insurance industry are highly desirable.
